Running shoes differ from other shoes by good cushioning, flexible toe, rigid heel and relatively low weight. In this article, we have collected the best running shoes for leisurely daily runs, speed workouts and long-distance running.
What kind of running shoes for summer we were looking for:
road summer running models for running on asphalt or stadium surface; with breathable upper and cushioning; weighing one shoe within 300 g, with a drop from 8 to 12 mm and neutral pronation.

When choosing, I relied on reviews and feedback on popular models from well-known sports brands – such shoes are usually distinguished by quality and technology. In the end, I chose 40 of the most successful options. Then I narrowed down the list according to the following criteria.
Purpose. I considered only “road” summer running models for running on asphalt or stadium surface. For off-road, you need a different, more grippy tread. I also paid attention to the models having a light breathable upper: in summer it is important that the feet are not hot.
Cushioning. Running shoes should protect the athlete’s knees and spine from excessive impact load, as well as spring, giving extra speed to the run. This is achieved by a layer of cushioning material between the sole and the insole. Each manufacturer has its own technologies: some have a softer midsole, well damping the impact, designed for comfort, others – more elastic and responsive, giving more acceleration. The configuration of the sole also affects the cushioning – the thickness of the cushioning layer and its distribution over the foot.
Weight. Modern quality running shoes usually weigh no more than 350 g per one shoe of average size. I took this weight as the maximum and tried to select models within 300 g.
Running technique. Most amateur runners run from the heel, that is, when running, they land on the heel, not the toe. For this technique, running shoes have a height difference from the heel to the toe, a drop, for a smooth roll. My selection included shoes with a drop from 8 to 12 mm, which helps to rebuild the technique from the heel to the correct one.
Pronation. The selection included models with neutral pronation, that is, without special support for people with flat feet or pigeon-toed. Such models are suitable for most runners, and individual anatomical features can be corrected if necessary with an orthopedic insole. Also, running shoes should be half a size larger than you usually wear.
